# Retention reports in RootWright LMS

The **Retention** tab in the course builder shows how well learners remember a course. RootWright LMS Pro builds five reports from recall answers and lesson questions. Use them to find the lessons to rewrite or split.

## The reports

| Report | What it shows |
|---|---|
| **Forgetting** | How often each recall item was forgotten after it had been learned, in the last 90 days. The lessons behind the worst items are the ones to rewrite or split. |
| **Confidently wrong** | Questions learners said they were certain of and got wrong, on their first answer. An explanation that leaves this behind is teaching the wrong thing. |
| **Checkpoints** | For each lesson with questions in it: who opened it, who answered one, and who was right first time. Where the numbers fall is where attention drops. |
| **Retention** | Memory strength, 0 to 100, averaged over the learners who enrolled in each month. Compare months before and after you changed the course. |
| **Recall load** | What was due and what was recalled each day, and the time it took. A backlog that only grows is more recall than learners can keep up with. |

## When the reports fill in

The reports are worked out overnight. A new course shows "This report is worked out overnight. It will be here tomorrow, once the course has recall items or lesson questions that learners have answered."
