# How to moderate lesson comments in RootWright LMS

Enrolled students can discuss each lesson in the comments under it. In RootWright LMS, approve, reply to, or clean up those comments under **Community → Lesson comments**.

*Community → Lesson comments. The **All caught up** label shows when nothing is waiting.*

## Moderate comments

::: steps

1. Go to **Community → Lesson comments**. The **Pending** tab lists new comments that need your approval.
2. Pick a course in **All courses** to narrow the list.
3. Use the actions on a comment: **Approve**, **Reply**, **Spam** or **Trash**. **Open lesson** shows the comment in place.
4. To reply, click **Reply**, write your answer and click **Send reply**. A "Reply posted" message confirms it.
   :::

## The tabs

| Tab | Shows |
|---|---|
| **Pending** | New comments waiting for approval. |
| **Approved** | The comments learners see under each lesson. |
| **Spam** | Comments you marked as spam, kept in case you change your mind. |
| **Trash** | Comments you trashed, kept so you can restore them. |

Other actions appear where they apply: **Unapprove** hides an approved comment again, **Back to pending** restores a comment from spam or trash, and **Delete permanently** removes it. **Delete permanently** asks "Delete this comment permanently?" first. It can't be restored, and replies to it move up a level.

## Change how comments work

Go to **Settings → Courses & lessons → Reviews & comments** and set **Lesson comments**:

* **Hold for approval**: comments wait on the **Pending** tab. The default.
* **Publish immediately**: comments show as soon as they are posted.
* **Turn lesson comments off**: students cannot comment.
