# AI-written recall questions in RootWright LMS

When RootWright LMS Pro generates a course with AI, it also writes two to five recall questions for each lesson. Learners meet these questions later in their daily **Today** session, not straight after the lesson. RootWright LMS does not show AI questions at the end of a lesson.

AI-written recall questions come with [Generate a course with AI](/courses/generate-with-ai), which needs RootWright LMS Pro and a connected AI provider.
:::

## How it works

* While writing each lesson, the AI adds two to five recall questions for spaced-repetition review. A lesson holds at most five.
* They are saved as the lesson's own recall items, the same as items a teacher writes. The AI only adds them to a lesson that has no recall items yet.
* Learners review them in **Today** when they fall due. See [Daily recall](/learning/daily-recall).

## Edit the questions

Open the lesson in the lesson builder and scroll to the **Recall** section. Edit or remove the items there, or click **Add recall item** to write your own. A lesson must be saved before you can add recall items.

## Turn recall off for a course

In the course builder, open **Details** and find the **Learning** section. Switch off **Recall**. The switch reads: "What learners meet in this course comes back in their daily recall. Turn off for a course that is not meant to be memorised."

## What learners are asked after a lesson

When a learner finishes a lesson, RootWright LMS offers them a chance to write their own question: "Lesson done. Write a recall question for it, and it comes back to test you tomorrow." This prompt does not use AI. See [My recall questions](/learning/my-recall-questions).
